Attractions and Activities
The central and virtually sole attraction at Cape Evans is:
- Scott's Hut: Located on the north shore of Cape Evans on Ross Island, this historic building was constructed in 1911 by Robert Falcon Scott's British Antarctic Expedition of 1910-1913 (the Terra Nova Expedition). It served as the crucial base from which Scott and four companions embarked on their ultimately fatal trek to the South Pole. Although abandoned in 1913, the hut and its contents remain remarkably well-preserved due to the constant freezing conditions, offering a powerful insight into the lives of early Antarctic explorers.
