Falmouth Harbour is a large, naturally protected bay on the southern coast of Antigua. It serves as a popular cruise destination, with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines utilizing the New Falmouth Pier as their exclusive port of entry. The harbor area features two main hubs: the small village of Falmouth on the north side and a more visitor-focused east side, which hosts most of the restaurants and is within easy walking distance of Nelson's Dockyard.

Getting Around from the Port

Upon disembarking at Falmouth, a secured taxi stand is available within the port area, located to the right past the initial building with shops. Reputable taxis operate from this stand, and rates for various destinations and tours are clearly posted on a board. Sample taxi fares to key destinations include V.C. Bird International Airport (US$21), Shirley Heights (US$21), and St. John's (US$7). Taxi drivers are often qualified tour guides and can arrange sightseeing trips.

For independent travel, local buses are a cost-effective option. Buses regularly connect St. John's to Falmouth and English Harbour, costing approximately EC$3 and taking about 30 minutes. They typically run from early morning until around 7 pm, with a particularly busy rush hour between 4 pm and 5 pm. Note that bus service is very limited on Sundays.

A water taxi service offers round-trip transport from Nelson's Dockyard across the harbor to Galleon Beach for US$12.

  • St. John's: The capital city, St. John's, can be reached by taxi for approximately US$7 or by local bus for about EC$3.

Dining & Shopping

The east side of Falmouth Harbour is the primary area for dining, featuring most of the local restaurants. Within the secured port area, past where your ship docks, you'll find a building housing several shops for convenient browsing.

Currency and Language

The local currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (EC$), though most vendors in Falmouth readily accept U.S. dollars. The exchange rate is approximately US$1 = EC$2.70. Wi-Fi access is available throughout the port and marina areas.
