Celebration
Celebration is Carnival Cruise Line's newest private destination, located on the island of Grand Bahama. Designed exclusively for Carnival guests, this port offers a resort-style experience directly adjacent to the ship. Cruise ships dock directly at a dedicated pier, eliminating the need for tendering and allowing for easy access to all the amenities ashore. The entire area is managed by the cruise line, providing a controlled and curated environment focused on relaxation, recreation, and dining. It is important to note that independent exploration beyond the confines of Celebration is generally not practical due to its private nature and the limited time in port.
Getting Around from the Port
Upon disembarking, you will find that Celebration is designed for easy pedestrian access. Most attractions are within walking distance from the ship. For areas further afield within Celebration, the cruise line typically provides complimentary internal shuttles or trams. These shuttles connect various zones, such as different beach areas, activity hubs, and dining venues. There is no public transportation or taxi service available for independent travel off Celebration, as it is a private facility. To explore Grand Bahama island, specific cruise line organized excursions are the only practical option.
Attractions and Activities
Celebration offers a range of activities designed for a relaxing and fun day ashore. Most activities and rentals are booked directly through Carnival Cruise Line, either onboard or at designated kiosks on the island.
- Beaches & Pools: Enjoy the expansive white-sand beaches, such as Starfish Beach, or relax by one of the large freshwater pools, like the Paradise Plaza Pool. Loungers are typically complimentary.
- Water Park Fun: The Celebration Waterpark (name subject to change) will feature water slides, splash pads, and other family-friendly aquatic attractions. Fees may apply for certain features or specific areas.
- Cabana Rentals: For a more private and luxurious experience, various types of cabanas (beachfront, poolside, or within specific areas) are available for rent, offering shade, seating, and often dedicated service. Prices vary significantly based on location and amenities, starting from approximately $250-$500+.
- Water Sports: Rent kayaks, paddleboards, or snorkeling gear to explore the calm waters. Prices for rentals typically range from $25-$50 per hour. Snorkeling is best enjoyed in designated areas.
- The Oasis (Adults-Only Retreat): An exclusive adults-only area designed for tranquility, often featuring its own pool, bar, and premium loungers. Access may be included or require an additional fee.
- Zip Line & Ropes Course (Potential): Future developments may include adventure activities like a zip line or ropes course. Check with Carnival for current offerings and pricing, usually around $30-$60 per activity.
- Shopping Village: Browse for souvenirs, local crafts, and branded merchandise at the dedicated shopping area.
Dining
Expect a variety of dining options, many of which are included in your cruise fare, similar to onboard dining. These typically include:
- Buffet-style Restaurants: Offering casual meals, snacks, and desserts throughout the day.
- Grill Stations: Serving burgers, hot dogs, and other barbecue favorites.
- Bars & Lounges: Numerous bars across the destination will offer alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Beverage packages purchased on the ship typically extend to Celebration.
- Specialty Dining/Snacks: Some premium dining experiences or specific snack items (e.g., specific ice creams, specialty coffees) may be available for an additional charge. Local Specialties: While the dining is cruise-line managed, you may find Bahamian-inspired dishes or flavors integrated into the menu, such as conch fritters or local fish preparations.
Shopping
- Souvenir Shops: Several shops will offer Celebration-branded merchandise, t-shirts, beachwear, and general souvenirs.
- Local Crafts Market: There may be a small designated area where local Bahamian artisans sell handmade crafts, jewelry, and artwork. These are good places to find authentic souvenirs.
- Duty-Free: While some items may be tax-free, Celebration is not a major duty-free shopping destination. For significant duty-free purchases, you would typically look to Freeport. Price Ranges: Food and non-alcoholic beverages included in your cruise fare will be free. Alcoholic drinks and specialty items will be priced similarly to onboard, ranging from $5-$15 per drink. Souvenirs can range from a few dollars to $50+.
Safety
Celebration is a highly controlled and secure environment managed by Carnival Cruise Line. The risk of crime is very low. Standard precautions apply: stay hydrated, use sun protection, and be aware of your surroundings, especially when swimming or engaging in water sports. Follow all posted safety guidelines and instructions from staff.
Currency and Language
The official currency accepted at Celebration is the United States Dollar (USD). Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover) are widely accepted at all shops, bars, and activity kiosks. Many purchases can also be charged directly to your onboard account using your cruise card. ATMs are typically not available on private islands, so it's advisable to bring smaller denominations of USD if you anticipate cash-only purchases (though most vendors accept cards or ship charge). English is universally spoken by all staff.
