Nessebar Cruise Port Guide
Nessebar is a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its ancient Old Town situated on a peninsula. Ships may dock directly, allowing passengers to step straight into town, while larger vessels typically use tenders. Please note that Nessebar is not wheelchair accessible due to its many cobbled streets and steps. The town's rich history spans over 9000 years, with the most prominent buildings, primarily churches built in a unique "picturesque" style, dating from the 11th to 14th centuries. Today, the Old Town retains its romantic charm with narrow cobblestone lanes, historic two-storey houses, and lively gift shops, pubs, and cafes.
Getting Around from the Port
Nessebar is very walkable, making it easy to explore most areas on foot. For those who prefer not to walk, small local trains are available, offering rides between different parts of town in less than 10 minutes for approximately 1 Euro.
For travel to nearby Sunny Beach, which is only 5 km away, various boat options depart from the dock in Nessebar's Old Town. You can choose between more upscale boats and yachts, which cost around 20 BGN Lev (cocktails onboard are priced similarly to local bars), or simpler modified fishing boats, which charge 8-12 BGN Lev per ride.

Prices for some items in Bulgaria, particularly shoes, leather goods, and other clothing, can be significantly lower (around half) compared to Western Europe, offering good bargains. However, be aware that famous international brands, perfumes, and electronic equipment are often more expensive than in other parts of Europe. Many stores are open seven days a week.
Currency and Language
The local currency is the Bulgarian Lev (BGN). While the reference guide indicates that Bulgaria will use the Euro starting in 2026, for current visits, Lev is the standard currency. Credit cards are generally accepted in most establishments. Free WiFi is widely available in cafes throughout both the new and old parts of town for customer use.
