Koblenz GermanyCruise Port Guide
Getting Around from the Port
Rhine cruise ships dock at the Deutsches Eck area or at the Rhine promenade, a short walk from the Old Town and German Corner. A cable car (Seilbahn, €17.90 return) crosses the Rhine from the Ehrenbreitstein side directly to the Old Town riverbank — excellent for crossing to/from the fortress. The Old Town is compact and walkable. City buses serve the broader area; day transit pass is approximately €5.
Attractions and Activities
Ehrenbreitstein Fortress (€8, cable car extra): massive Prussian fortress with sweeping Rhine valley panorama and State Museum. Cable car across the Rhine (€17.90 return): the only Rhine cable car in the middle Rhine region — spectacular views. Deutsches Eck and Kaiser Wilhelm I statue (free): symbolic German Corner at the Moselle-Rhine confluence. Basilica of St. Castor (free): Koblenz's oldest church, 9th century, where the Treaty of Verdun dividing Charlemagne's empire was ratified. Moselle wine cruise (2–3hr boat excursion up the Moselle): vineyard villages and castle views. Boppard (30 min south by river): Rhine loop viewpoint accessible by chair lift (Sesselbahn). Rhine gorge boat trip to Loreley rock.
Dining & Shopping
Koblenz's riverside restaurants along the Rheinanlagen promenade offer excellent Moselle and Rhine wine. Try Riesling from the steep Mosel slopes paired with regional fish (Zander, pike-perch). Weindorf Koblenz (wine village) near the Deutsche Eck has wine tasting from regional producers. The Altstadt (Old Town) around Jesuitenplatz has traditional German restaurants. The 2011 Federal Horticultural Show (BUGA) grounds are now a riverside park. Souvenirs: Moselle Riesling, Rhine wine, and local Sekt (sparkling wine). The pedestrian zone around Löhrstraße for shopping.
Weather
Koblenz on the Rhine and Moselle rivers is primarily a river cruise destination visited from spring to fall, with warm summer temperatures between 68–82°F (20–28°C). Rain is possible at any time of year in this central European location, so light layers and a packable umbrella or rain jacket are recommended. The spectacular Deutsches Eck (German Corner) at the river confluence and the hilltop Ehrenbreitstein fortress are the iconic landmarks.
