Saint Peter Port GuernseyCruise Port Guide
Getting Around from the Port
Upon landing at Albert Pier, you are already in the town center, making many attractions walkable. However, be prepared for steep streets within Saint Peter Port.
For exploring the island, Guernsey offers an excellent public bus service that is both cheap and frequent during daytime hours.
- Island Tour by Bus: A popular and practical option is to take public bus routes #91 or #92. These circular routes provide a good overview of the island, lasting approximately 90 minutes per trip. A day pass costs about £10 and allows you to hop on and off at various points. Be aware that buses can be very busy on cruise ship days, so consider alternative routes if needed.
- Petit Train: For a localized sightseeing experience around Saint Peter Port itself, the Petit Train offers a tour with onboard commentary.
Attractions and Activities
Given 8-10 hours in port, here are some key activities:
- Explore Saint Peter Port (Walkable): Wander through the charming town with its Georgian and Regency architecture, hidden alleys, and tiered gardens. The town itself is very steep in places.
- Visit Castle Cornet (Walkable): This historic castle is a prominent landmark. A notable event is the noon cannon firing. If you wish to witness this without paying for castle admission, head towards the castle entrance but do not go through the tunnel. Stand by the "Castle Cornet" sign in the small inlet to your left to view the cannon firing.
- Island Bus Tour (Bus #91 or #92): As mentioned, this is an excellent way to see the island. Purchase a £10 day pass and enjoy the approximately 90-minute scenic loop, with the flexibility to disembark and explore at your leisure.
- Sausmarez Manor (Accessible by Bus): Head to this historic manor to visit the Edwardian Tin Shop, where you can purchase a traditional curvy Guernsey Milk Can, a unique local souvenir. Check bus routes for travel times.
