Liepaja LatviaCruise Port Guide
Getting Around from the Port
The cruise terminal is located approximately 5 kilometers from Liepaja's town center. To reach the center, you can use public transport: take Bus 10, 11, 15, or Minibus 3. The journey typically takes about 15 minutes. Be aware that there is some distance to walk between the terminal building itself and the street where public transport operates. Taxis are another option for direct transport.
Attractions and Activities
- Explore Liepaja City Center and Seaside Park: Wander through the city center, known for its old, beautiful wooden buildings and irregular streets. Visit Jurmalas parks (Seaside Park), which leads to a fantastic, unspoiled beach with soft white sand.
- Discover Karosta: This northern part of Liepaja offers a unique experience as a former secret Soviet military town. Karosta has a distinct history and appearance, making it worth a separate visit. It also boasts its own great beaches.
- Visit Petertirgus (Central Market): Located in the city center, this is the biggest and main market, ideal for finding local amber, craft works, and souvenirs.
Dining & Shopping
For shopping, Petertirgus (the central market) is the main destination for amber, craft works, and general souvenirs. A smaller market, Annas tirgus, is open daily (except Sundays) in Jaunliepaja. For unique finds, particularly "cool soviet-style souvenirs" and other interesting items, check out the small markets at the Silku/Kalpaka street corner or in Karosta. Dining options can be explored once you reach the city center, as no specific restaurants are near the terminal.
Weather
The cruise season in Liepāja on Latvia's Baltic coast runs from June to August, with mild summer temperatures between 59–72°F (15–22°C). Baltic Sea breezes and occasional rain are common, so light layers and a windproof jacket are always useful.
