Getting Around from the Port
Given the lack of tourist facilities on Desroches, there are no formal transport options available such as taxis, shuttles, or car rentals. Exploration is primarily on foot along the extensive beaches or directly from the water.

Desroches offers a pristine natural environment for self-guided activities:
- Swimming and Snorkeling: The warm, exceptionally clear waters around Desroches are perfect for swimming. Snorkelers can explore the vibrant marine life and coral reefs. Remember that sun protection is crucial, and wearing plastic shoes can protect your feet from coral while a T-shirt helps prevent sunburn.
- Beach Walking: Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the island's long, unspoiled beaches. It's an ideal way to take in the serene surroundings.
- Reef Exploration: The island is surrounded by approximately 50 nautical miles of reef, offering extensive areas for underwater discovery for those equipped for snorkeling.

Weather
Desroches (Alphonse Group), an outer Seychelles atoll island, has a tropical oceanic climate year-round with temperatures between 77–88°F (25–31°C). The drier season from May to October offers calmer seas and lower humidity; December to March brings heavier rainfall. Light summer clothing, sunscreen, and a compact rain jacket are essential for this extraordinarily pristine uninhabited atoll, accessible only by private yacht or resort charter, where the coral reef is among the most intact in the Indian Ocean.
Safety
Sun protection is essential due to the year-round sunny weather. When snorkeling, it is highly recommended to wear plastic shoes to protect your feet from coral and a T-shirt to prevent sunburn. There are no specific areas to avoid, but always be mindful of your surroundings in natural environments.
Currency and Language
The local currency is the Seychelles Rupee (SCR). While credit card acceptance is limited given the lack of facilities, it's useful to know that 1 Euro is approximately 8 rupees. For currency exchange, ATMs generally offer the best conversion rates, though banks and airports also provide exchange services. Languages spoken are Creole (the official language), English, and French.
