Back

Ibiza, also known as Eivissa, is the smallest of the three Balearic Islands and a leading international tourist destination, especially renowned as the capital of electronic music. Cruise ships typically dock at two main locations. Larger vessels use the Passeig Marítim or Muelle Dique de Potafoc. From here, reaching the city center (Sa Marina) is possible on foot, but it's a relatively long walk. Smaller ships generally dock at Muelle Levante. The island offers a blend of vibrant nightlife, beautiful beaches, and historical charm, with the ancient Dalt Vila (Old Town) being a major highlight, perched atop a hill.

Getting Around from the Port

Upon arrival, your transport options from the cruise port to the main attractions are varied:

  • Walking: From the larger ship docks (Passeig Marítim or Muelle Dique de Potafoc), you can walk to the city center (Sa Marina), though it's considered a pretty long distance.
  • City Boat: A convenient "City Boat" service runs every 15 minutes, offering a scenic ride to the city center. The jetty is located just 200 meters from the terminal, to your left across the car park. A one-way ticket costs €4, or you can purchase a return ticket for €6. Tickets can be bought at the terminal or directly on board (credit cards only).
  • Cruise Line Shuttle: Many cruise lines provide a shuttle service to the city center, typically costing around €13 per person.
  • Taxi: Taxis offer a direct way to reach specific destinations.
    • A taxi to Dalt Vila, the historic Old Town (which is further away and truly a highlight), costs approximately €11.
    • From Dalt Vila, an easy and enjoyable downhill stroll will take you to the modern Ibiza center.
    • Taking a taxi from the city center up to Dalt Vila is a steep climb, so walking uphill might be challenging for some.
    • A taxi ride back to your ship from Dalt Vila costs around €8.

Attractions and Activities

With 8-10 hours in port, you can comfortably explore Ibiza's key attractions:

  • Dalt Vila (Ibiza Old Town): This spectacular medieval town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is built on a hill with cobblestone streets and offers amazing views. The stately main entrance, Portal de Ses Taules, is flanked by two Roman statues and leads across a drawbridge into a cobblestone courtyard, then to Plaza de Vila. Explore the bastions, esplanades, numerous bars, restaurants, shops, and art galleries. From Dalt Vila, you can enjoy an easy downhill walk to the La Marina district and the port area. A taxi here from the port is about €11.
  • Sa Marina / Ibiza City Center: Located at the base of Dalt Vila, this area is the heart of Ibiza's action. It's filled with open-air bars, restaurants, nightclubs, and shops, particularly around the promenade. It's easily accessible by City Boat (€4 one-way / €6 return) or cruise shuttle (€13) from the port.
  • Caves Can Marca: For a unique natural attraction, head north to Port de San Miguel to visit the Caves Can Marca. These caves, once used by smugglers, offer a guided tour lasting 30-40 minutes. The entrance fee is about €8. Look for red and black markings on the walls that denote ancient smuggling routes.
  • Local Markets: Immerse yourself in local life by visiting one of Ibiza's bustling weekly markets in provincial towns and villages. These are excellent places to find fresh local products like fruits, fish, vegetables, and other specialties at reasonable prices, and to meet local residents.
  • Independent vs. Cruise Excursions: It's often beneficial to compare the excursions offered by your cruise line with independent options available through platforms like GetYourGuide and Viator for potentially better value or different experiences.

Dining

You'll find a wide variety of bars, restaurants, and cafes, especially in the Sa Marina district, Dalt Vila, and along the promenade in the city center. These establishments offer everything from local specialties to international cuisine. The weekly markets are also great for trying local produce and snacks. *

Shopping

Explore the shops in Sa Marina, Dalt Vila, and along the promenade for souvenirs, fashion, and art. The bustling weekly markets are ideal for purchasing local products and unique handcrafted items.

  • Opening Hours:
